About us

Queen Alexandra’s Court provides a home for 76 women who are widows, divorcees or single daughters of Officers and Warrant Officers of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and for women who are retired Officers or Warrant Officers of those Services. Vacancies occur periodically.

Because of the charitable nature of The Royal Homes, priority is given to applicants with modest incomes. However each application is treated on its merits and weight is given to the strength of the applicant’s Service connection. Successful applicants will not normally be admitted for residence before the age of 60. It is regretted that no pets are allowed.

Residents must be fit enough to look after themselves and their flats, and applicants are asked to provide medical certificates to this effect. Every effort is made to allow residents to continue to live in their flats for as long as they wish or are able to do so. Social Services can provide assistance with meals-on-wheels, carers, home helps and so on. However in the case of prolonged serious illness or some permanent incapacity, which results in it no longer being possible for ladies to continue in residence all assistance possible will be afforded to the individual in moving to a more suitable residence.

When a resident has to leave, and there are no relatives or close friends able to organise the move, the Manager, in consolation with all support agencies will assist in finding suitable alternative accommodation.

Each resident lives in a self-contained flat with its own entrance, fitted kitchen and bathroom. The flats are in beautiful mansion-style blocks forming three sides of a garden square. The whole site covers 4 acres with attractive and well maintained grounds.

There is a well equipped common room which is used for private as well as communal functions, and four guest rooms which residents may use for visitors at a current cost of £12 per person, per night.

The Court is ten minutes’ walk from Wimbledon rail and underground station, and the main shopping centre. There are easily accessible, regular and extensive bus services.
